Phantom of the Opera with James Kennerley: On-Demand Online (pre-recorded)

The Phantom of the Opera with an improvised symphonic score performed by James Kennerley

This performance is being pre-recorded on the Merrill stage without a live audience. The same recording is also being presented at the Saco Drive-In on October 16th, as well as performed live on the Merrill stage on Saturday, October 30.  As Kennerley improvises during these silent movie events, the live performance will be markedly different from the recording. You may want to consider viewing the live performance in addition to the recorded version. Tickets for the Drive-In and the live performance are sold separately.

Join Municipal Organist James Kennerley as he brings life, intrigue and, most importantly, brilliant musical accompaniment to The Phantom of the Opera, a 1925 American silent musical horror film adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra, directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney in the title role of the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star. This silent movie classic will be silent no more when Kennerley adds his magnificent playing to the film!

This concert is not being live streamed. The recording will be made available beginning at 6pm on October 17 and remain available through 11:59pm on November 1. You are welcome to watch the recording as many times as you wish within the viewing window.
