Join FOKO docents for a behind the scenes view of the magnificent Kotzschmar Organ.
As of March 26, 2020 – At this time, tours are temporarily on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is our hope to post a more comprehensive list of available dates in the coming months.
How much do you know about pipe organs and how they work? We offer an experience that takes you on a journey of how the Kotzschmar Organ came to be in Merrill Auditorium and demonstrates its abilities to the fullest. You will receive a special demonstration concert in which you hear the various sounds and colors of this Austin symphonic pipe organ.
Get up close to see and examine the state of the art console that is the “brain behind the instrument.” Highly trained docents will take you on a unique tour where you’ll actually walk inside the organ’s windchest! Most organ windchests are inches tall, but our windchest is large enough that you can walk comfortably through and see the intricate inner workings of the pipe organ on this unique tour.
Tour events are scheduled intermittently throughout the concert season based on timing with FOKO concerts. Other tours are possible to schedule, depending on group size (typically a 10 person minimum) and Merrill Auditorium’s availability around ongoing concerts among multiple organizations.
