Organ Tours: Backstage Pipes

Join FOKO docents for a behind the scenes view of the magnificent Kotzschmar Organ.

How much do you know about pipe organs and how they work? We offer an experience that takes you on a journey of how the Kotzschmar Organ came to be in Merrill Auditorium and demonstrates its abilities to the fullest. You will receive a special demonstration concert in which you hear the various sounds and colors of this Austin symphonic pipe organ.

Get up close to see and examine the state of the art console that is the “brain behind the instrument.” Highly trained docents will take you on a unique tour where you’ll actually walk inside the organ’s windchest! Most organ windchests are inches tall, but our windchest is large enough that you can walk comfortably through and see the intricate inner workings of the pipe organ on this unique tour.

Tour events are scheduled intermittently throughout the concert season based on timing with FOKO concerts.  We currently have two Backstage Pipes tours scheduled: Monday, January 9, 2023 at 2 pm and Monday, March 13, 2023 at 3 pm. Contact us at the bottom of the page to reserve your space at an upcoming Backstage Pipes.
