Silent Films – Halloween is our holiday mainstay for silent film and always a fun evening starting with a costume contest for all ages followed by fun filled horror for Halloween. We typically schedule at least one other silent film concert with a guest organist accompanying on the Kotzschmar! Christmas with Kennerley, continue’s Ray Cornils tradition that ran for 28 along with a variety of guests such as The Kotzschmar Festival Brass, The Parish Ringers, ChoralArt, and Oratorio Chorale. Meet the King of Instruments, a youth concert for 3rd-8th graders, introduces the pipe organ and a variety of music to students, many of whom have never heard a pipe organ. Summer Series – During the height of the busy summer season, we put on a series of concerts featuring renowned organists.
Founded in 1981, the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ (FOKO), a non-profit organization, supports the Kotzschmar Organ. Each year the organization presents 16-18 concerts, engaging renowned organists and guest artists from around the world. FOKO is responsible for the care and maintenance of the organ and provides funds to produce and promote concerts, maintain, repair and enhance the organ, sponsor lectures and organ demonstrations and tours and supports a growing education program to bring awareness and understanding of this musical gem of Portland.
